HARRISBURG, PA — The 2026 Pennsylvania Farm Show officially opened on January 7, marking the beginning of an eight-day agricultural showcase and the start of a yearlong celebration honoring the United States’ 250th anniversary. Pennsylvania’s Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding and U.S. Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson led the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which featured a blend of patriotism and state pride.

The event, held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex, is the largest indoor agricultural exposition in the United States. It serves as a kickoff for America250PA celebrations across the Commonwealth. “Today, we celebrate an enduring symbol,” Redding stated during the ceremony, highlighting the vital role agriculture plays in the nation’s history and future.

Celebrating Heritage and Innovation

The theme for this year’s Farm Show, “Growing a Nation,” emphasizes Pennsylvania’s agricultural legacy and its connection to the founding of the United States. The event showcases how farmers and food producers have historically sustained the nation and continue to drive economic growth and innovation. “It feels exactly right to usher in the semiquincentennial year at the largest indoor agriculture exposition in the nation,” said Cassandra Coleman, Executive Director of America250PA. She underscored the importance of agriculture in shaping 250 years of American independence.

The opening ceremony, emceed by Deputy Agriculture Secretary Lisa Graybeal, featured a vibrant display that included a performance by Carly Green, a 14-year-old winner of the Farm Show’s Star Spangled Sing-Off. The event also showcased a parade of mounted Pennsylvania State Police and the Revolutionary New Philly Fife and Drum Company, creating a dynamic atmosphere.

A highlight of the celebration was the unveiling of the America250PA Semiquincentennial Bell, a replica of the Liberty Bell adorned with a quilt-inspired design by Pittsburgh artist Cody Sabol. This bell will travel throughout the Farm Show Complex, allowing visitors to sign a second bell at the America250PA exhibit as a tribute to the anniversary.

A Showcase of Agriculture

The 2026 Farm Show runs until January 17, featuring nearly 5,000 animals and over 12,000 competitive entries from more than 4,600 competitors. With over 250 commercial exhibits spread across one million square feet, the event highlights the state’s agricultural prowess. Admission is free, though parking is set at $15 per vehicle.

Visitors can look forward to beloved traditions, including the iconic 1,000-pound butter sculpture, various food offerings at the Farm Show Food Court, and interactive demonstrations such as sheep-to-shawl competitions and live cooking events at the PA Preferred Culinary Connection. These activities not only celebrate Pennsylvania’s agricultural heritage but also reflect the industry that supports approximately 593,000 jobs and generates $132.5 billion annually for the state’s economy.
