Dellfinn Castroverde Honored as MEO’s Driver of the Year
The Maui Economic Opportunity (MEO) has honored Dellfinn Castroverde as its Driver of the Year during a ceremony held on February 26, 2024. Castroverde, who has dedicated over 30 years to serving the residents of Maui County, is recognized as the nonprofit’s longest-serving driver. She began her journey with MEO in April 1994 and has since played a crucial role in transporting kūpuna (elders), youth, and individuals with disabilities to essential services and medical appointments.
The award presentation took place at MEO’s Wailuku classrooms, where Carol Davis from Atlas Insurance presented Castroverde with a plaque and a cash award. Davis highlighted Castroverde’s unwavering professionalism and commitment to her role, stating, “This individual’s dedication is evident not only in the length of her service but in the consistency, care, and professionalism she brings to every shift.”
Castroverde’s selection for the honor was based on recommendations from MEO Transportation management, which were subsequently approved by the senior executive team. Evaluation criteria included her exemplary safety record, reliable attendance, and the compassion she demonstrates towards her riders.
In addition to the Driver of the Year award, Atlas Insurance also sponsors the “Cash for No Crash” program, which rewards drivers who maintain clean safety records throughout the year. This initiative underscores the importance of safety within MEO’s transportation services.
MEO operates the Maui Bus paratransit and Maui County Human Services transportation programs, providing no-cost rides for low-income, rural, and disabled residents. These essential services facilitate access to shopping, health appointments, and community events, thus contributing significantly to the well-being of the community.
Residents in need of transportation can schedule rides by calling 808-877-7651. Those interested in driver positions with MEO may reach out at 808-249-2990 for more information. Castroverde’s recognition as Driver of the Year not only celebrates her outstanding service but also highlights the vital role of transportation providers in enhancing the quality of life for Maui’s residents.
