Dolly Parton Shares Health Update, Reflects on Loss of Husband
Dolly Parton has provided a candid health update, revealing that she has been “worn down” following the death of her husband, Carl Dean, on March 3, 2025. The country music legend discussed her well-being during a video shared on the opening day of Dollywood, where she addressed concerns regarding her health that have circulated among fans.
During the video, which was released on March 13, Parton acknowledged that she has been dealing with some underlying health issues while coping with her grief. “I’ve had a few little health issues, and we’re taking good care of them,” she stated. Parton had previously shared that she experienced kidney stones in September 2024, which required medical attention.
Reflecting on her emotional state, Parton commented, “I just kind of got worn down and worn out, grieving over Carl and a lot of other little things going on.” She emphasized her focus on rebuilding herself spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Despite her struggles, she assured fans that she remains in good spirits and is continuing her work.
Maintaining a Sense of Humor
In her characteristic light-hearted manner, Parton joked about her current relationship status, confirming that she is not dating anyone following her husband’s passing. She humorously clarified that fans should not mistake Dollywood Company President Eugene Naughton as her “new husband.” “I think Carl Dean’s waiting for me,” she remarked, adding that if she were to arrive at the pearly gates with someone else, her late husband would not be pleased.
Parton also addressed misconceptions about her health in a previous update from October 8, 2024. “I know lately, everyone thinks I’m sicker than I am. Do I look sick to you? I’m working hard here,” she exclaimed while filming at the Grand Ole Opry in Tennessee. She reassured her audience, stating, “I want you to know I’m okay,” and acknowledged that she let some health matters slide while caring for her husband during his illness.
In a playful nod to her resilience, she captioned the October video with “I ain’t dead yet!” reinforcing her positive outlook as she navigates this challenging period in her life.
Fans continue to express their affection and support for Parton, who remains an enduring figure in the music industry and a beloved personality worldwide. Her openness about her health and personal struggles resonates with many, creating a connection that transcends her music career.
