Luzerne County Events: Book Reading, Banquet & More This Month!

URGENT UPDATE: Luzerne County is buzzing with exciting community events starting this week, including a children’s book reading and a much-anticipated annual banquet. Don’t miss out on these enriching opportunities!

This Saturday, February 21, at 10 a.m., the Luzerne County St. David’s Society will host a children’s book reading at the Ousterhout Library located on S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre. This engaging event promises to ignite young imaginations and foster a love for reading.

Later that day, join the St. David’s Society for a wreath-laying ceremony at 1 p.m. at the Miner’s Memorial on Public Square, contingent on weather conditions. This solemn event honors the community’s heritage and is a must-see for locals.

The action continues on February 24 with the Wyoming Valley Real Estate Investors Association meeting at 7 p.m. at Grotto Pizza, 337 Wyoming Valley Mall Road, Wilkes-Barre Twp. This month’s speaker is Lieutenant Ryan Foy from the Luzerne County Sheriff’s Department, who will discuss Sheriff Sales. New members are welcome, with a $15 entry fee that applies to annual dues.

Mark your calendars for February 25, as the 2026 Allan Hamilton Dickson Spring Writers Series features acclaimed poet and educator Brionne Janae at 7 p.m. in Kirby Hall Salon, Wilkes University. Janae, a 2023 NEA Creative Writing Fellow, is known for her impactful works such as “Because You Were Mine.” This event is free and open to the public.

On March 1, don’t miss the 147th Annual St. David’s Day Banquet at the Westmoreland Club, starting at 4 p.m.. Tickets are priced at $50 and include a delightful menu featuring potato and leek soup and chicken Française. Contact society treasurer Bradley Anthony at 570-262-3025 for tickets.

Looking ahead, the Alhamar Caravan No. 4 will host a spring dinner dance for Special Olympics Bowlers on March 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fox Hill Country Club. Reservations must be made by March 11, with a cost of $35 per attendee. This event promises a fun evening with entertainment by DJ Joe Hussey and a delicious menu.

The literary scene will flourish again on March 25 with Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah, whose novel “Chain-Gang All-Stars” was a finalist for the National Book Award. This free event will be held at an undisclosed location on the Wilkes University campus.

Additionally, the 2026 Allan Hamilton Dickson Spring Writers Series will feature Lauren Klein on April 14, discussing her upcoming book, “Data by Design.” This event is also free and open to the public, further enriching our community’s cultural landscape.

For those interested in community service, the Luzerne County Child Advocacy Center will host its 11th Annual The Secret Garden Gala on April 25. This event supports local children and features dinner, entertainment, and a silent auction.
