I-95 Traffic Disruptions Expected During Early Morning Work
Drivers in Philadelphia should prepare for temporary traffic delays on Interstate 95 early Wednesday morning, March 11, 2024. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will conduct essential surveying work as part of the significant I-95 CAP construction project. These activities are scheduled to occur between 2:00 AM and 5:00 AM and will impact both directions of the highway.
During this timeframe, road users can expect periodic lane closures and rolling stoppages in the area. Specifically, the affected section runs between I-676 (Central Philadelphia/Callowhill Street Exit 22) and Washington Avenue/Columbus Boulevard (Exit 20). While these temporary measures are in place, crews will safely complete necessary measurements and inspections before reopening the lanes.
Impact of the I-95 CAP Project
The surveying work is part of the broader $329 million I-95 CAP project, which aims to replace and expand the covered section of the interstate between Chestnut Street and Walnut Street. This initiative is designed to enhance connectivity between Center City and the Delaware River waterfront, promoting better access for both motorists and pedestrians.
Motorists traveling through the area during these early hours are advised to allow for additional travel time and remain alert to potential traffic holds and backups near the work zone. As crews work diligently to improve the infrastructure, safety remains a top priority.
