Washington D.C. Faces Mixed Weather: Rain, Snow, and Cold Ahead
UPDATE: The National Weather Service has just announced a dramatic shift in weather conditions for Washington D.C. as the city gears up for the Christmas holiday. Residents are urged to prepare for a volatile mix of weather, including potential rain and snow overnight, impacting travel plans just days before the festive celebrations.
As of today, the temperature stands at a chilly 35°F with a humidity level of 76%. Those stepping outside can expect mostly sunny skies with temperatures rising to a comfortable high near 49°F. However, brace for wind gusts reaching up to 25 mph this afternoon as winds shift from southwest to northwest.
Looking ahead, Washingtonians should be on alert for significant weather changes tonight. The National Weather Service predicts rain and snow between 1 am and 4 am, with a 40% chance of precipitation. As temperatures hover around 35°F, commuters may face slippery roads during the early morning hours.
On Monday, expect increasing cloud cover with a high near 44°F. Calm winds will shift slightly from the west around 5 mph. The precipitation chance will decrease to 20% before 1 pm on Tuesday, but overcast conditions will persist. Temperatures are expected to climb to a milder 53°F, providing a brief respite from the cold.
As Christmas approaches, Washington D.C. will see a 30% chance of rain mainly before 1 pm on Christmas Day, with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 52°F. Residents planning to remain in the capital for the holidays should keep umbrellas handy, as persistent rain could disrupt holiday festivities.
By Friday, temperatures may reach a warm 59°F, but rain is expected to linger, potentially affecting weekend plans. Fortunately, the forecast indicates a return to partly sunny skies by Saturday, with highs around 49°F, wrapping up the holiday week on a calmer note.
Stay tuned for further updates as the weather develops, and keep safety in mind during this mixed bag of conditions.
