Urgent Search Abandoned for Missing Florida Lawyers After Boat Found

UPDATE: The search for two Florida lawyers, Randal Spivey and Brandon Billmaier, who disappeared during a fishing trip, has been officially abandoned after days of fruitless efforts. The duo set out on Friday off the coast of Lee County, Florida, and was last heard from around 7:30 PM that evening.

In a frantic search effort, the US Coast Guard recovered their empty boat floating approximately 70 miles offshore, with the engine still running. However, both men were missing, prompting a transition of the investigation to the FBI as authorities seek further answers.

Former FBI agent Richard Kolko described the disappearance as “unusual,” indicating the complexity of the case. “The FBI has initiated a missing persons case. They were beyond the territorial limits of the U.S. coast,” Kolko stated, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.
