Stephen Curry’s Game 6 Jersey Sells for Record $2.45 Million
BREAKING: The jersey worn by Stephen Curry during the championship-clinching Game 6 of the 2022 NBA Finals has just been sold for a staggering $2.45 million, setting a record for Curry memorabilia. This sale marks the highest price ever paid for a jersey associated with the star shooter, who secured his fourth title with the Golden State Warriors and claimed his first NBA Finals MVP award.
The sale was confirmed by Barry Meisel, president of the MeiGray Group, which specializes in photo-matching and authentication. Meisel stated that the jersey was sold privately and is the only one Curry wore during that historic game, underscoring its rarity and significance. Previously, a Curry jersey fetched $1.758 million at Sotheby’s last summer, making this sale a considerable leap in value.
Meisel explained, “We have seen a significant increase in private sales of this magnitude over the last 12 to 18 months. Premium items are selling for multiples of what they did several years ago.” The buyer, who has chosen to remain anonymous, was represented in the transaction by Curio Advisors.
This historic sale is indicative of a growing trend in the sports memorabilia market, where authenticated items are increasingly sought after by collectors. Meisel noted that very few premium items enter the hobby with proper authentication, making those that do particularly valuable.
In a statement reflecting the broader implications of such sales, Meisel remarked, “We chronicle, in real time, historic milestones and moments.” He referenced a recent sale involving Alex Ovechkin, whose jersey from his record-breaking 895th goal was authenticated and handed directly to him during a postgame ceremony.
As sports memorabilia continues to rise in value, collectors and enthusiasts are eagerly watching the market for the next big sale. For now, this record-setting transaction highlights Stephen Curry’s monumental impact on both the court and the collector’s market.
