UPDATE: SilverSummit Healthplan has just announced a groundbreaking investment of $650,000 to enhance healthcare services in rural Nevada. This critical funding, revealed on January 20, 2025, aims to support 13 critical access hospitals and rural health clinics now included in the newly expanded Medicaid Managed Care program.

This investment comes as Nevada’s Medicaid Managed Care system expands beyond urban limits, impacting thousands of residents across rural communities. SilverSummit’s initiative will provide each facility with $25,000 in both 2025 and 2026, ensuring they can effectively participate in the Medicaid program while improving infrastructure and workforce capabilities.

Among the beneficiaries is Desert View Hospital in Pahrump, which is set to utilize its share of the funding to enhance staff education and training programs. “This funding will allow us to upgrade our education and training programs, a key motivator for recruitment and retention,” said Ryan Muccio, Marketing and Outreach Coordinator at DVH. The investment highlights SilverSummit’s commitment to improving healthcare access in rural areas, directly addressing workforce needs as identified by hospital staff.

The list of funded facilities includes notable institutions such as Banner Churchill Community Hospital, Battle Mountain General Hospital, and Boulder City Hospital, among others. The thirteenth facility is yet to be determined. SilverSummit officials emphasize the diverse needs being addressed through this funding, from transportation improvements to updated imaging equipment.

“By investing in provider infrastructure and expanding capacity, we strengthen support for healthcare professionals while ensuring patients have access to necessary care,” stated Sarah Fox, Chief Operating Officer of SilverSummit Healthplan. This funding is part of a broader initiative, with over $23 million invested in community healthcare since 2022.

With this significant investment, SilverSummit aims to fortify healthcare services across rural Nevada, emphasizing their commitment to a robust healthcare system. The expansion of Medicaid Managed Care, which rolled out statewide on January 1, 2025, is expected to transform healthcare access for tens of thousands of residents who were previously reliant on a Fee-For-Service system.

As rural communities transition to this new healthcare model, officials are optimistic about the improvements in care coordination and access to essential health services. Medicaid Managed Care connects members to services through a network of doctors and providers, ensuring comprehensive coverage that includes both physical and behavioral health services.

The urgency of this development cannot be overstated. As healthcare needs grow, particularly in underserved areas, SilverSummit’s investment represents a vital step towards ensuring equitable health access for all Nevadans.
