Philadelphia Man Flees Police, Faces Years for Gun Charges
UPDATE: A Philadelphia man is facing serious charges after fleeing police on the Schuylkill Expressway during a traffic stop. Khiry Elijah Flowers, aged 28, has pleaded guilty to multiple felonies, including illegally possessing a stolen firearm and eluding law enforcement following a dramatic chase on August 5, 2025.
The court proceedings unfolded in Montgomery County, where Judge Steven T. O’Neill has deferred sentencing as officials prepare a comprehensive background report on Flowers. He is currently held without bail and could face a maximum prison term of 6 to 12 years for his actions, which have shocked local communities.
The incident erupted just after 12:05 a.m. when state police attempted to pull over Flowers for a lane violation. Instead of stopping, Flowers allegedly accelerated, reaching speeds exceeding 100 mph in a 2009 Audi sedan where the speed limit is 55 mph. Witnesses reported seeing his car weave dangerously among other vehicles as he attempted to escape.
The chase ended dramatically when Flowers exited the highway at Conshohocken but lost control, crashing the Audi and disabling the vehicle. Police apprehended him on the scene, where he was not wearing a seatbelt.
In a startling admission, Flowers confessed to fleeing because he was armed and had no driver’s license. Officers discovered a stolen Taurus G3 pistol in his pocket, raising serious concerns given his criminal history, which includes a robbery conviction that bars him from firearm possession.
Authorities also revealed that Flowers was wanted for a probation violation in Philadelphia and had missed a court date in Cape May County, N.J.. Additional charges, including carrying a firearm without a license and reckless driving, are expected to be dismissed during sentencing.
Assistant District Attorney Paul Pruitt is leading the prosecution, while Flowers is represented by defense lawyer George M. Griffith Jr. As the case unfolds, communities remain on high alert regarding public safety and the implications of such reckless behavior.
The upcoming sentencing hearing will determine Flowers’ fate, with court officials now focusing on his evaluations for drug, alcohol, and mental health issues. The outcome is expected to resonate widely, emphasizing the ongoing battle against gun violence and reckless driving on Pennsylvania roads.
Stay tuned for further updates as this case develops.
