UPDATE: The 130th Airlift Wing has safely returned to Charleston, West Virginia following a critical mission to the Horn of Africa. Families gathered at McLaughlin Air Base on March 5, 2026, to welcome home their loved ones after months of deployment.

As the first C-130 aircraft rolled onto the apron, excited children wearing ear protection eagerly awaited their fathers’ return. Captain Mike Adler expressed the emotional weight of the moment, stating, “There’s nothing like it, it makes their day, it makes our day. Happy to be home, and it’s time to make up for some lost time for sure.”

The 130th Airlift Wing members successfully completed missions delivering essential supplies across various airfields in the Horn of Africa. Airman Thomas Staggs, holding his young son Sawyer, shared, “I missed his first Christmas, but we planned one out and did it early before I left.” His heartfelt words highlight the sacrifices military families endure during deployments.

Another returnee, Ben Foster, cradled his two-month-old son at the time of his deployment just before Thanksgiving. “It’s great, he’s grown up a lot since I left him. He’s like 20 pounds heavier,” he remarked, underscoring the personal impact of military service on family life.

This mission marks a significant milestone for the 130th Airlift Wing as it is the first deployment utilizing the advanced C-130 J aircraft. The unit upgraded from the older C-130H3 models to the more sophisticated C-130J-30s in 2021, enhancing their operational capabilities.

Officials confirm that the mission was a success, fulfilling vital logistical needs and reinforcing the unit’s readiness. The emotional reunions unfolding at the base serve as a poignant reminder of the dedication and sacrifices made by military personnel and their families.

As the community celebrates this homecoming, the 130th Airlift Wing prepares for future missions, continuing their commitment to service and support both at home and abroad.

Stay tuned for more updates on their upcoming engagements and ongoing contributions to national security.
