Donate Now: Sportsmen’s Fund Sends Kids to Camp, Tax Benefits Await
URGENT UPDATE: The Arizona Daily Star Sportsmen’s Fund is calling on community members to donate today to help children from low-income households and active military families in Southern Arizona attend summer camp on scholarships. This initiative not only supports local youth but also provides significant tax benefits for Arizona residents.
As of now, the Sportsmen’s Fund has raised $272,576.43 in 2025, enabling 423 Southern Arizona children to experience weeklong summer camps, including YMCA, Scouting America, and Girl Scouts overnight camps. The fund is also expanding its reach to include scholarships for Flowing Wells students at the Sky School camp on Mt. Lemmon, set to grow further in 2026.
Why does this matter? Your contribution is crucial. Every dollar donated directly supports children’s camp experiences, with 97 cents of every dollar going directly to scholarships. The Fund has been a pillar in the community since 1947, aiding over 44,814 children in going to camp. This year, donations are more essential than ever to ensure that more children can enjoy these enriching experiences.
Donors can take advantage of Arizona’s tax credit for qualifying charitable organizations. Joint Arizona filers can donate up to $987 for 2025 and $1,009 for 2026, while other filers can contribute up to $495 for 2025 and $506 for 2026. Donations made between now and April 15, 2026, can be claimed on your 2025 Arizona income tax return.
For those interested in making a difference, donations can be made online at azsendakidtocamp.org or sent via checks to: Send a Kid to Camp, P.O. Box 16141, Tucson, AZ 85732-6141. For any inquiries, contact Debbie Kornmiller at 520-954-3139 or [email protected].
Recent contributions highlight the community’s support, including donations like $2,500 from Geraldine M. Moisant and $1,000 from an anonymous donor. These gifts are vital in helping children experience the joys of summer camp, which fosters growth, friendship, and learning.
If you’re aged 70½ or older and have an IRA, consider making a Qualifying Charitable Distribution directly from your account. This strategy not only reduces your taxable income but also maximizes your impact on local youth.
Act now! Your donation today can change lives and provide unforgettable experiences for children in your community. Help us continue this legacy and send kids to camp.
