Darren Fletcher will serve as interim manager for Manchester United during their upcoming FA Cup match against Brighton on Sunday. The former United midfielder, who previously coached the club’s U18 team, took on the interim role following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim as head coach.

Fletcher managed the team in a challenging fixture against Burnley on October 25, 2023, which ended in a 2-2 draw. After the match, he expressed his commitment to leading the team in the FA Cup tie, stating, “They’ve informed me they’d like to take the team for Sunday… So all my focus and energy goes to that now.”

Despite the disappointment of conceding a late equalizer, United displayed resilience, coming back from a goal down to initially take a 2-1 lead, thanks to two goals from Benjamin Sesko. Fletcher noted the team’s effort, saying, “They put in a performance that should win the match. We created a lot of chances, had 30 shots, goal-line clearances, a disallowed goal.”

The club is actively seeking a permanent interim manager, with discussions underway with former managers Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick regarding the position until the end of the season. As of now, Fletcher will remain in charge for at least one more game.

Looking back at the match against Burnley, Fletcher acknowledged areas for improvement, stating, “It wasn’t perfect; we started slow. We scored two fantastic goals. Still lots to work on, but I was really pleased with their efforts.” His focus now shifts to preparing the team for the crucial FA Cup clash, emphasizing the importance of building on their recent performance.

As Manchester United gears up for this important fixture, all eyes will be on how Fletcher guides the team in the next round of the FA Cup.
