Celebrated Engineer Kevin J. McAloon Passes Away at 89
Kevin J. McAloon, a distinguished engineer and passionate motorcycle enthusiast, passed away on September 16, 2025, at the age of 89. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Kevin was the son of John H. McAloon and Eileen A. O’Sullivan McAloon. His life journey took him from the streets of Chicago to significant contributions in the aerospace industry, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Kevin completed his grammar education at Notre Dame Academy in Watsonville, California, before graduating from St. Ignatius High School in Chicago. Following his high school education, he served two years in the U.S. Army, a commitment that reflected his dedication to service. He pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Detroit and a Master’s degree from the University of Southern California.
With a career spanning over three decades in the aerospace sector, Kevin worked for prominent companies including Douglas Aircraft, Northrop, and concluded his professional journey with a remarkable 23 years at TRW. He retired in 1992, but his expertise did not go unnoticed; he continued to consult part-time for TRW and Northrop Grumman for nine years after his retirement.
Kevin was not just defined by his career achievements. He was an avid motorcycle rider, enjoying both dirt and street biking. He cherished taking local and cross-country trips with his children, creating memories that would last a lifetime. His love for fitness extended to running, having completed four marathons—three alongside his son—and numerous 10K races. After transitioning from running, he discovered a passion for cycling, particularly enjoying rides on the Palos Verdes peninsula and later the farm roads of the Sacramento valley. His interest in farming technology blossomed during this time.
Kevin is survived by his four children, including Karen, and two grandchildren, Jack and Madeleine. He also leaves behind four nieces and nephews: Jack, Maureen, Jim, and Kathy.
In a heartfelt tribute, his family noted, “The above was written by our dad to be precise and economical and we have faithfully submitted it. But he never said we couldn’t add to it, so—he will be missed. His wit, his charm, his kindness, his deep love of salt, his Irish humour. May the wind always be at your back.”
Kevin J. McAloon’s legacy will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his vibrant spirit and the joy he brought to his family and friends.
