Scrutiny Grows Over Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Brother’s Legal Success

Questions are mounting regarding the legal victories of Brad Bondi, the brother of Pam Bondi, the Attorney General of Florida. As the Department of Justice (DOJ) faces criticism for its handling of cases related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, lawmakers are increasingly concerned about potential conflicts of interest arising from Bondi’s success in cases involving the DOJ.

Recent communications from members of Congress have raised alarms about whether the DOJ has effectively implemented “firewalls and screening procedures” to separate Pam Bondi from her brother’s legal activities. This scrutiny intensified following several high-profile cases where Brad Bondi achieved favorable outcomes for clients facing challenging circumstances.

In a notable example, Brad Bondi represented Trevor Milton, a billionaire convicted in 2022 of defrauding investors through misleading statements. Despite a sentence of four years in prison, Milton was pardoned by Donald Trump in March 2025, raising eyebrows about the connections between the administration and the Bondi family.

The DOJ’s handling of cases involving Brad Bondi has drawn further scrutiny after charges against developer Sid Chakraverty were abruptly dropped in August 2024, shortly after he joined Chakraverty’s legal team. Chakraverty, accused of wire fraud and lying to secure tax incentives, claimed Bondi had been involved in the case informally before the 2024 election.

A similar situation unfolded for Carolina Amesty, a former Republican member of the Florida state House, who faced accusations of fraudulently obtaining $122,000 in small business loans during the COVID-19 pandemic. The U.S. attorney overseeing the case, Gregory Kehoe, requested its dismissal just after Brad Bondi joined Amesty’s defense team. Bondi’s involvement came shortly after the 2024 election, coinciding with Pam Bondi’s nomination as Attorney General.

In a statement on social media platform X, Amesty claimed her case was dismissed due to her legal team’s effective rebuttal of the allegations, asserting that they “masterfully refuted all the false allegations against me and cleared my name.”

The unusual frequency of favorable outcomes for Brad Bondi’s clients has prompted lawmakers to demand comprehensive documentation regarding the cases he has worked on. They are seeking information about individuals who reviewed and approved decisions in these cases, as well as the rationale behind them. The DOJ has been given until January 2, 2025, to respond to these inquiries.

Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland has expressed concerns about the implications of these developments, stating, “The DOJ under Pam Bondi has not been guided by the rule of law, but rather the political grievances and personal motivations of Donald Trump and his allies.” He emphasized the need for transparency regarding the DOJ’s decisions that appear to benefit the Attorney General’s brother.

As the situation unfolds, both the DOJ and Brad Bondi have remained silent regarding requests for comment. The ongoing investigation into the connections between Pam Bondi’s office and her brother’s legal successes is expected to continue, as lawmakers call for greater accountability and transparency within the Department of Justice.
