Giannis Antetokounmpo Out 4-6 Weeks with Calf Injury
UPDATE: Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is expected to miss 4-6 weeks due to a right calf injury sustained during Friday night’s tight 102-100 loss against the Denver Nuggets. The injury, which limited his performance throughout the game, will undergo further evaluation with an MRI scheduled for Saturday.
Antetokounmpo revealed the severity of the injury post-game, stating, “After the MRI, they will tell me, probably, I popped something in my calf on my soleus or something.” The star player first showed signs of discomfort during the first quarter, ultimately returning to the game with a wrap around his leg, but could not finish strong.
The potential absence of Antetokounmpo poses a significant threat to the Bucks, who currently sit at 18-26 and are struggling in 11th place in the standings. The team has lost five of its last six games, and statistics show they are just 3-11 this season without their leading player.
Coach Doc Rivers expressed concern over Antetokounmpo’s condition, noting, “This calf keeps coming up and it’s concerning.” He indicated that he had questioned the medical staff multiple times during the game about the player’s condition, highlighting that Antetokounmpo was determined to continue playing despite the injury.
Antetokounmpo, who played for 32 minutes and recorded 22 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 assists, shared the emotional toll of the injury, stating, “For me to stop playing and not be able to move? It was extremely painful.” His dedication to the game has often seen him push through pain, but the repeated calf issues are raising alarms for both him and the coaching staff.
The Bucks will need to rally together during Antetokounmpo’s recovery, as they aim to improve their standings. “I’m going to work my butt off to come back,” he promised, indicating a hopeful return by late February or early March. Fans and analysts alike will be closely watching how the team adapts in his absence and whether they can secure a spot in the play-in tournament for the playoffs.
This developing story has significant implications for the Bucks and their playoff ambitions as they navigate a challenging season without their key player. Stay tuned for updates as more information emerges following the MRI results.
