Robert E. “Bob” Gordon passed away unexpectedly at the age of 71 while surfing at Bolsa Chica State Beach, California. His family, friends, and colleagues are mourning the loss of a respected leader in the pest control industry, whose contributions significantly impacted the field.
Born in 1954 in Alhambra, California, Bob Gordon was the son of Kenneth and Jo Ann Gordon. He grew up in the San Gabriel Valley, where he cultivated a passion for gymnastics, earning a full scholarship to attend the University of Arizona. In 1977, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration and subsequently joined his father to run the family business, Gordon Termite & Pest Control, which was established by his grandfather, Tony Gordon, in 1942.
Leadership in the Pest Control Industry
Throughout his 46-year career, Bob gained a reputation as an industry leader in the San Gabriel Valley District of the Pest Control Operators of California (PCOC). His expertise and dedication to improving safety standards led to several significant roles within the organization. Notably, he served as president of PCOC in 1988 and was instrumental in various committees aimed at enhancing industry regulations.
Bob’s commitment to the profession was evident in his recent role as chair of the Structural Pest Control Board Committee, where he worked alongside peers to review and revise the Structural Pest Control Act and its accompanying rules. His contributions were recognized and respected throughout the state, and he was known for his willingness to mentor younger professionals in the field.
A Life Well-Lived
Outside of his professional achievements, Bob Gordon led an active and fulfilling life. He enjoyed biking, fishing, golfing, and surfing, and he cherished traveling with his family. His love for family was evident in his dedication to attending grandchildren’s sports events and gatherings. Bob is survived by his wife, Cary Gordon; his son, Bryan Gordon; daughter-in-law, Tiffany Gordon; and grandchildren, Ryder, Rexx, and Rio Gordon. He is also survived by his sister, Jodie Jenkins, brother-in-law, Bob Jenkins, and stepchildren, Jason Watson and Christina Jackson, along with granddaughter, Nora Jackson.
Bob’s unwavering support, affection, and encouragement will be profoundly missed by those who knew him. A celebration of his life is scheduled to take place at 11:00 AM on January 12, 2026, at Cornerstone Church, located at 1000 N. Studebaker Road, Long Beach, California.
