Michael Rapaport Launches NYC Mayoral Bid Against Mamdani
BREAKING: Actor and podcaster Michael Rapaport has officially announced his candidacy for the New York City mayoral race in 2029, just five days after Zohran Mamdani took office. Rapaport did not hold back, labeling Mamdani a “stain at the helm” and vowing to restore the city’s safety and affordability.
In a surprising reveal on the latest episode of his I Am Rapaport Stereo Podcast, Rapaport declared, “2025 was crazy, and I don’t see it getting any calmer in 2026. That’s why I’m running for mayor.” His announcement is expected to shake up the political landscape as he positions himself as a fierce critic of Mamdani’s policies and demeanor.
Rapaport, 55, known for his role in Friends, took to social media to further emphasize his campaign message: “I, Michael Rapaport, am running for Mayor of New York City — 2029. Born. Raised. NYC. Nothing’s free. No bullshit.” He criticized Mamdani’s political stances and expressed skepticism about the new mayor’s ability to lead effectively, especially in light of recent events.
Mamdani’s campaign has garnered significant attention for its progressive proposals, including a city-wide rent freeze and affordable grocery stores. His victory over former governor Andrew Cuomo has positioned him as a frontrunner in the upcoming general election, slated for November 2025. However, Rapaport’s escalating rhetoric against him raises questions about the future dynamics of the race.
In an incendiary statement, Rapaport described Mamdani as “Zohran the Moron” and warned of potential negative impacts during his first term. “We have a shit stain at the helm right now in New York City,” he asserted on his podcast, expressing concerns that Mamdani’s leadership could lead to unforeseen consequences for the city.
While Rapaport acknowledged that New York might not immediately descend into chaos, he criticized Mamdani’s public persona, saying, “He’s got a huge ego. He’s got an evil grin, and I think he’s up to no good.” His comments reflect a broader sentiment among those who oppose Mamdani’s progressive agenda.
As the political landscape shifts, Rapaport’s entry into the race is poised to energize voters who resonate with his blunt approach and concerns about Mamdani’s leadership. With the general election approaching, all eyes will be on how this rivalry unfolds.
Stay tuned for more updates as both candidates ramp up their campaigns and engage with the electorate in the coming months. The battle for New York City’s future is just heating up, and it promises to be a contentious and closely watched race.
