GigaBite Robotics Seeks Community Support for STEM Initiatives
The GigaBite Robotics team, known as FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Team 20681, is reaching out to the South Lake Tahoe community for financial support to enhance STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) opportunities for local students. Comprising 11 middle and high school students, GigaBite Robotics aims to expand its programs and continue its mission of engaging young minds in hands-on STEM activities.
This year, GigaBite Robotics has made a significant impact by mentoring a rookie FIRST Lego League (FLL) team, which received the Rising Stars Award and advanced to compete at the Northern Nevada Championship. The team has also organized STEM camps, workshops, and community events that introduce students to robotics, engineering, and coding. As it embarks on its fifth year in the FTC competition, the team is dedicated to teaching real-world engineering principles, teamwork, and problem-solving through its core values of Gracious Professionalism.
Expanding STEM Education and Community Engagement
The current FTC challenge, named Decode, has prompted the team to enhance its approach through data-driven design, custom CAD-built mechanisms, and the seamless integration of software and hardware. GigaBite Robotics plays a pivotal role in the local STEM landscape, impacting students well beyond the competition arena. Their efforts include:
- Mentoring younger teams and supporting FTC teams across Nevada and internationally.
- Volunteering at FTC and FLL competitions, including hosting a local scrimmage.
- Partnering with local schools and Lake Tahoe Community College to host STEM Discovery Night.
- Teaching over 500 students through hands-on STEM camps and outreach programs during three summer sessions.
To sustain and expand these initiatives, GigaBite Robotics is seeking donations. Contributions will directly fund essential resources such as robot parts, 3D printing filament, registration and competition fees, tools, travel expenses, and outreach programs. This support ensures that financial barriers do not prevent students from exploring STEM fields.
How to Support GigaBite Robotics
Donations can be made easily online at the following link: GigaBite Robotics Donation Link. The team is fiscally sponsored by Hack Club, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, with an EIN of 81-2908499.
Your support is crucial in inspiring curiosity, building confidence, and fostering a stronger STEM future for the South Lake Tahoe community. GigaBite Robotics appreciates any investment in local students and innovation, aiming to create lasting opportunities for the next generation of STEM leaders.
