Tolmar Launches New Lab at Rosalind Franklin University’s Research Park
Tolmar, Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company, has officially opened its new Northern Illinois Laboratory within the Innovation and Research Park (IRP) at Rosalind Franklin University in North Chicago, Illinois. This facility aims to enhance Tolmar’s capability in developing and commercializing pharmaceutical products, while simultaneously enriching the university’s ecosystem of industry innovation.
Founded in 2007, Tolmar has gained international recognition for its expertise in long-acting injectable drug delivery systems. The company specializes in manufacturing injectables for various medical fields, including urology, oncology, and endocrinology. Notably, Tolmar’s leading product is used for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer and is available in 89 countries worldwide.
Expanding Research Capabilities
The new research facility at Rosalind Franklin’s IRP will complement Tolmar’s existing operations in Colorado, which include a skilled team of researchers and engineers. This strategic move also strengthens Tolmar’s presence in the region, where it already has executive offices and sales personnel based in Buffalo Grove, Illinois.
“Tolmar is excited to expand our development capability, now covering both Colorado and Illinois,” said Dr. Dave Loffredo, the company’s Vice President of Innovation. “After an exhaustive search, we found a great home at Rosalind Franklin’s IRP. Tolmar scientists are eager to be a part of this dynamic research environment and hope to grow our presence at IRP.”
Similarly, Dr. Stace Porter, Senior Vice President of Development Operations for Tolmar, expressed optimism about the new lab’s potential. “At Rosalind Franklin University’s Innovation and Research Park, Tolmar gains world-class research space and the chance to collaborate with leading scientists and advanced research cores. Surrounded by Lake County’s vibrant network of global life science companies, we’re excited to grow and innovate here.”
A Hub for Innovation
Rosalind Franklin University boasts a state-of-the-art, 100,000-square-foot Innovation and Research Park, which is home to six research centers, including the Center for Cancer Cell Biology, Immunology, and Infection. Dr. Joseph DiMario, RFU’s Executive Vice President for Research, welcomed Tolmar to the university’s roster of companies, emphasizing the potential for collaborative innovation.
“We look forward to collaborations that can help accelerate new product development,” said Dr. DiMario. “The IRP provides an environment that fosters the kind of intellectual biomedical ‘collisions’ that drive meaningful innovation.”
The addition of Tolmar’s Northern Illinois Laboratory is expected to not only enhance the pharmaceutical company’s operational capabilities but also contribute to the broader research and development landscape in the region.
