McCarter Theatre Launches Festive Season with A Christmas Carol
McCarter Theatre in Princeton, New Jersey, is set to enchant audiences with its return of the beloved production of A Christmas Carol, running from December 9 through December 28, 2023. This festive season marks a continuation of a cherished local tradition, bringing together music, magic, and the spirit of generosity that defines the holiday period.
Acclaimed actor Cameron Knight takes on the iconic role of Ebenezer Scrooge. His performance is highly anticipated, with Sarah Rasmussen, Artistic Director at McCarter Theatre, noting, “Scrooge is a character of Shakespearean magnitude. Cameron’s deep sense of humanity and love of language brings something truly special to this production.” Knight, who serves as the Head of the Acting Program at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, has an impressive resume that includes performances at notable venues such as the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre.
The production aims to immerse audiences in a celebration of joy and community. Alongside the performances, McCarter Theatre is offering several engaging pre-show events. Local choirs will perform in the Lockwood Lobby starting 45 minutes before select performances. For instance, the Princeton Girlchoir will sing before the show on December 12, while the Princeton Boychoir will perform on December 16.
Family-Friendly Events and Accessibility Options
On December 21, families can enjoy a special storytime event with Jeff, which will begin at 12:15 PM and lead into the 1:00 PM performance. This initiative encourages families to arrive early and engage in a festive atmosphere.
McCarter Theatre is dedicated to making its productions accessible to all patrons. Among the planned accessible performances is the ASL-Interpreted Performance on December 20 at 1:00 PM, where tickets are available for $40 using promo code ACCESS26. The theatre will also host an Audio Described & Open Captioned Performance on December 21 and a Relaxed Performance on December 28, both aimed at creating a welcoming environment for diverse audiences.
Community Engagement and Holiday Initiatives
In the spirit of giving, McCarter Theatre is partnering with Mercer Street Friends for a holiday food drive. Attendees are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items and toiletries, with designated drop-off points at the Box Office during regular hours and performances. Suggested items include canned goods, grains, and cleaning products, with a focus on helping neighbors in need during the holiday season.
For those planning to attend, McCarter Theatre offers a Holiday Concessions Package that can be pre-ordered alongside tickets. This package provides a convenient way for patrons to enhance their theatre experience with festive snacks.
With its combination of tradition, accessibility, and community spirit, McCarter Theatre’s production of A Christmas Carol promises to be a highlight of the holiday season.
