Yungblud Urges Support for Iranian Protesters During Melbourne Concert
During a concert in Melbourne, Australia, British rock artist Yungblud delivered a powerful message in support of the ongoing protests in Iran, where citizens are rising against oppressive conditions. His remarks echoed the tragic circumstances surrounding the death of Mahsa Amini, a young woman who was killed in 2022 for allegedly violating hijab laws.
Advocating for Freedom and Equality
Yungblud referred to Amini as he spoke passionately about the plight of Iranian demonstrators, stating, “Two years ago, I spoke about a girl called Mahsa Amini from Iran, who was murdered for not wearing her hijab.” He emphasized that questioning someone’s religion is not his place but highlighted the universal fight for equality and liberation. “This community fights for equality and liberation throughout the fucking world,” he added.
The protests in Iran have intensified amidst severe economic challenges, with reports indicating that numerous protesters have lost their lives. Yungblud underscored the significant role of women in this movement, declaring, “What is going on in Iran, this revolution is led by the fucking women.” He expressed concern over the current conditions faced by protesters, noting that “for four days, they have had their internet cut off, they have had their electricity cut off. They are in darkness, they are asking for our voice.”
Yungblud urged his audience to act, saying, “We have to be their fucking light right now. So speak, shout, post, because they are fighting for freedom. They are fighting for their freedom. They are fighting for our freedom, because nobody is free until we are all fucking free.”
Solidarity from Other Artists
Yungblud is not alone in raising awareness about the situation in Iran. Iconic pop star Madonna also expressed her support through an extensive post on social media, stating that “the people of Iran have not known freedom for centuries.” She reflected on the privileges many take for granted, such as the freedom to travel, express oneself, and choose one’s spiritual path. “The women of Iran do not have this freedom. I stand with them,” she declared.
The responses from both artists highlight a growing concern within the entertainment community about the humanitarian crisis in Iran. As protests continue to unfold, the voices of musicians like Yungblud and Madonna serve to amplify the calls for justice and freedom, shedding light on the struggles faced by many in the country.
