New Longest Nonstop US to Europe Flights Launch in 2026
The landscape of transatlantic travel is set to evolve significantly in 2026, with new nonstop flights connecting the United States and Europe. According to data from Cirium Diio, an average of 530 daily passenger flights will operate this year, marking a 3% increase compared to the previous year. This expansion includes 15 additional daily services, reflecting heightened demand for travel between these regions.
New Routes and Expanding Connectivity
As nearly 40 airlines navigate the skies between the US and Europe, several new routes are contributing to this growth. Notably, American Airlines is introducing a first-time nonstop service from Dallas/Fort Worth to Athens, which will commence on May 21, 2026, just in time for the peak summer season. This new route will enhance American Airlines’ offerings to Athens to five routes with up to five daily flights.
While the Greek capital is set to benefit from increased connectivity, the dominance of Istanbul Airport is evident. The airport, located on the European side of the Bosphorus, accounts for a significant portion of the US-Europe market, with Turkish Airlines leading the way. The airline’s longest flights include a 14-hour and 5-minute journey from Istanbul to Los Angeles, available 12 to 17 times weekly.
According to the US Department of Transportation, Turkish Airlines transported nearly 3.6 million passengers to Los Angeles between its debut in March 2011 and September 2025. Despite challenges in maintaining high seat load factors, the airline plans to offer up to 17 weekly flights to Los Angeles in 2026, mirroring its maximum capacity from 2025.
Key Flight Details and Market Trends
The longest nonstop flights from the US to Europe in 2026 include:
– **14h 05m**: Istanbul to Los Angeles, Turkish Airlines, 12 to 17 weekly
– **14h 00m**: Istanbul to San Francisco, Turkish Airlines, 9 to 12 weekly
– **13h 25m**: Athens to Dallas/Fort Worth, American Airlines, daily seasonal
– **13h 20m**: Rome Fiumicino to Los Angeles, ITA Airways, 3 weekly to daily
– **13h 15m**: Istanbul to Dallas/Fort Worth, Turkish Airlines, daily to 10 weekly
These figures indicate a robust demand for long-haul services, particularly to and from major US cities on the West Coast and broader central regions. The competition among airlines is expected to intensify as they strive to capture a share of this lucrative market.
The recent performance metrics suggest that Turkish Airlines filled 82% of its seats in the first nine months of 2025, despite a 9% increase in available seats. The airline’s growth plans for 2026 include more frequent services to key destinations, which could lead to adjustments based on performance outcomes.
Travelers can anticipate not only new routes but also increased options for connecting flights. Booking data indicates that approximately 72% of passengers travelling on Turkish Airlines from Los Angeles connected to other flights in Istanbul. Popular connecting destinations included Tehran, Cairo, Beirut, and Athens, reflecting the diverse travel needs of passengers.
As airlines prepare for these significant adjustments, the competition for transatlantic travelers is likely to reshape the dynamics of air travel between the US and Europe in the coming years.
