The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that it has dropped a total of 2,000 bombs on Iran since launching Operation Roaring Lion on March 15, 2026. This rapid deployment of munitions has occurred over just two days, matching the intensity of bombing seen during the six-day Operation Rising Lion in June 2025.

The IDF’s operation aims to comprehensively dismantle Iran’s ballistic missile capabilities. Following a brief reduction in Iran’s missile stockpile—from approximately 3,000 missiles in June to around 1,300—the Islamic Republic has managed to rebuild its arsenal to roughly 2,500 missiles in less than eight months. The swift recovery has raised concerns among Israeli military officials, who have expressed disappointment at Iran’s ability to replenish its missile inventory and replace approximately 200 missile launchers destroyed in the previous conflict.

Strategic Objectives of Operation Roaring Lion

Air force sources have detailed that this operation is not solely focused on targeting missile production facilities. The IDF intends to disrupt the entire supply chain required for missile development, including the destruction of raw materials necessary for missile assembly. By targeting these components, Israel aims to significantly delay Iran’s missile production capabilities, potentially hindering its threat level for a prolonged period.

While the air force has acknowledged losses of some drones to Iranian air defenses, officials insist that these losses are minimal and have not affected the overall pace of operations. The IDF is committed to maintaining high operational tempo despite these challenges.

As the situation continues to evolve, the international community watches closely, aware that the implications of this conflict extend beyond the immediate region.
