Beta Cinema Secures Major Presales for ‘Operation Napoleon’ Sequel
Beta Cinema has successfully finalized multiple international presales for the upcoming Nordic conspiracy thriller, Operation Napoleon – Tears of the Wolf. This sequel is currently in production across Finland, Iceland, and Germany. Notably, Magnolia Pictures has acquired distribution rights for North America, while additional agreements have been reached with Signature Entertainment for the UK and Ireland, Mediawan for France, Twelve Oaks for Spain, and Hagi Film for Poland.
The film serves as a sequel to the original Operation Napoleon, which achieved significant success, selling to over 40 territories including the United States and performing particularly well in Germany in 2023. The English-language follow-up reunites several notable talents, including Vivian Ólafsdóttir (known for It Hatched), Jack Fox (from Riviera), and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (featured in Severance and True Detective).
Production Details and Plot Overview
Returning to direct is Jyri Kähoänen, who previously worked on Trackers and Bordertown. The screenplay is penned by the original writer of Operation Napoleon, Marteinn Thorisson, alongside Tom Weston-Jones (known for True Things, Warrior, and Copper). Joining the cast is Laura Birn, recognized for her roles in Void, The Crow, and A Walk Among the Tombstones.
In this sequel, Ólafsdóttir portrays Kristin Jóhannesdóttir, a lawyer who becomes embroiled in an international conspiracy after being falsely accused of murder. The narrative follows Kristin and her team as they search for the legendary “Tears of the Wolf,” a hidden cache of Nazi diamonds from World War II. Following the unsettling experience of witnessing a murder, Kristin discovers encrypted messages and musical clues that lead them across Iceland, Finland, and Germany, culminating in a dramatic confrontation set in Helsinki’s wartime bunkers and the Finnish archipelago.
Production and Distribution Partnerships
The production is spearheaded by Anita Elsani and Alexander Klein of Germany’s Splendid Entertainment, alongside Kjartan Thor Thordarson of Sagafilm (Sweden and Iceland), and Eero Hietala and Sara Norberg of Take Two Studios (Finland). Co-production is provided by Elsani Film. The film is set for theatrical release in Iceland by Sam Film, in Germany by Splendid Film, and in Finland by Cinemanse.
Beta Cinema is showcasing the first promotional reel for Operation Napoleon – Tears of the Wolf at the ongoing American Film Market this week, highlighting the film’s potential appeal to an international audience. As it stands, this sequel promises to build on the success of its predecessor, drawing in viewers with intrigue and suspense.
