Vince McMahon’s 100 MPH Crash Caught on Police Video in CT
URGENT UPDATE: Newly released police footage captures former WWE executive Vince McMahon in a shocking high-speed car crash on a Connecticut highway, where he was driving at over 100 mph. The incident occurred on July 24, 2023, on the Merritt Parkway in Westport, as McMahon, now 80, was pursued by a state trooper.
The dramatic dashcam video shows McMahon accelerating in his 2024 Bentley Continental GT, valued at over $300,000, before colliding with the rear of a BMW. Following the impact, his vehicle swerved into a guardrail, scattering debris across the highway. No serious injuries were reported, although debris struck another car whose driver was wearing a WWE shirt.
When questioned by state police Detective Maxwell Robins about his reckless speed, McMahon explained, “I got my granddaughter’s birthday.” This poignant moment highlights the personal stakes as McMahon rushed to celebrate a family occasion. The police bodycam footage also reveals his concern for the other driver, Barbara Doran, who was heading to a ferry when the crash occurred.
After the crash, McMahon was cited for reckless driving and following too closely. In an October hearing, a state judge allowed him to enter a pretrial probation program, which could erase the charges from his record next October, provided he completes the program successfully. He was also ordered to make a $1,000 charitable contribution. McMahon’s lawyer, Mark Sherman, defended his client, stating, “Not every car accident is a crime,” emphasizing that the crash was an unfortunate accident rather than a criminal act.
The police have clarified that Detective Robins was attempting to gauge McMahon’s speed before pulling him over, asserting that this was not a pursuit. The bodycam footage captures a moment of confusion as McMahon insists, “No, no, no. I’m not trying to outrun you,” while Robins expresses frustration at McMahon’s speed.
In the aftermath of the crash, McMahon expressed concern for Doran, who confirmed to the AP that he was glad she was okay. The incident occurred on the same day that wrestling legend Hulk Hogan passed away from a heart attack in Florida, adding emotional weight to an already tumultuous day for McMahon.
This incident not only highlights the high-speed dangers on the road but also serves as a reminder of McMahon’s tumultuous recent history, including stepping down as WWE’s CEO in 2022 amid a sexual misconduct investigation and resigning from his role as executive chairman of TKO Group Holdings in 2024 following a lawsuit against him.
As more details emerge from this shocking event, the public continues to react, with many sharing the footage on social media and discussing the implications of McMahon’s behavior behind the wheel. This developing story raises questions about accountability and the impact of celebrity status on legal consequences.
