UPDATE: Over 182 customers in the Caribou City neighborhood, just north of Nederland, Colorado, remain without power five days after a devastating windstorm swept through Boulder County. The outage, which began at 2:33 p.m. on September 27, 2023, is one of the largest ongoing outages in the area, as residents anxiously await restoration.

As of 10 a.m. Monday, Xcel Energy reports that power is expected to be restored by 2 p.m. today. However, for over a hundred families, the wait has been long and frustrating. Across Boulder County, a total of 863 customers are still experiencing outages, but none have endured the disruption for as long as those in Caribou City.

The severe windstorm, which produced gusts exceeding 100 mph, initially caused power interruptions for as many as 100,000 people across Colorado. The outages began as planned shutoffs, implemented by Xcel Energy to mitigate the risk of wildfires during the extreme weather event.

Residents have expressed their concerns about the prolonged outage, with many relying on alternative sources of light and heat. The emotional toll is evident as families cope with the uncertainty of when they will regain power.

Looking ahead, the community is hopeful that restoration efforts will be successful by this afternoon. As Xcel Energy continues to work on repairs, local officials emphasize the importance of safety and preparedness for future weather events.

For now, residents in Caribou City are counting down the hours until they can once again turn on their lights and resume normal activities. Stay tuned for further updates as this situation develops.
