Urgent Paycheck Delays Hit Milwaukee Public Schools Employees
UPDATE: Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) employees are facing urgent paycheck delays, just before the weekend, impacting their finances significantly. Reports confirm that teachers and staff did not receive their paychecks for work performed between December 7 and December 20.
Multiple employees reached out to TMJ4’s Megan Lee, expressing their frustration after waking up on Friday morning to find no deposits in their accounts. Some employees reported incurring overdraft fees as bills and union dues were scheduled to be deducted, leaving them in a precarious financial situation.
An MPS spokesperson stated that some financial institutions might require additional time to process deposits. However, this explanation has done little to alleviate the concerns of affected employees. MPS also sent an email instructing staff to contact the HR department if their paychecks were not reflected in their accounts by 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
In a troubling development, MPS referenced federal regulations that demand wages for the 2026 tax year be paid in 2026, further complicating the situation for staff left without pay. Many teachers expressed their disappointment, stating that the lack of timely payment right before the weekend adds unnecessary stress.
TMJ4 has followed up with MPS to confirm whether the paychecks were submitted on time and to address concerns regarding the reported overdraft fees. As of now, the district has not provided any further clarification.
This situation raises serious questions about payroll management within Milwaukee Public Schools, emphasizing the urgent need for a resolution. Employees are left anxiously waiting for updates, with the financial impact already being felt.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as MPS navigates this critical issue affecting its staff.
