UPDATE: A significant snowstorm is set to hit New York City starting Friday, December 15, 2025, with snowfall expected to begin as early as 1 p.m. and intensifying throughout the evening. Authorities warn that the heaviest snowfall will occur between 8 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. Saturday, potentially blanketing the city with up to 9 inches of snow.

The New York City Department of Sanitation is mobilizing for this winter storm, deploying thousands of plow trucks and more than 700 salt spreaders to clear roads, highways, and bike lanes. Over 700 million pounds of salt are prepared to tackle the impending snowfall. Sanitation workers will also be on extended shifts to manage post-holiday trash collection while concurrently ensuring safe travel conditions across the five boroughs.

Residents are urged to stay off the roads during the storm to facilitate snow removal operations. The department’s advisory emphasizes that safety is paramount, particularly during the peak of the storm.

In addition to the Sanitation Department, other city agencies, including the NYPD and departments of Transportation, Parks, and Environmental Protection, may assist in storm response efforts. Although Mayor Adams has not scheduled any public briefings ahead of the storm, his official social media accounts are sharing warnings from NotifyNYC and the Sanitation Department.

As the city braces for this weather event, New Yorkers should prepare for potential travel disruptions and hazardous conditions. Stay tuned for real-time updates and important announcements regarding the storm’s impact and city responses.

What to watch for: Keep an eye on local news for updates on snow accumulation and travel advisories as the storm unfolds. New Yorkers are encouraged to share their experiences and photos on social media as the city transforms into a winter wonderland.
