U.S. Military Seizes Maduro: A Historic Shift for Venezuela
BREAKING: In a dramatic turn of events, the U.S. military has seized Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, sparking celebrations in Miami and igniting hopes for democratic change in both Venezuela and Cuba. This historic action, confirmed just hours ago, has been hailed as a pivotal moment for the future of democracy in the region.
Around 5:30 a.m.Carlos Gimenez took to social media to express his excitement, stating, “Today’s decisive action is this hemisphere’s equivalent of the Fall of the Berlin Wall.” Miami has a significant population of Venezuelan, Cuban, and Nicaraguan exiles, and Gimenez emphasized the overwhelming emotions felt within this community. “President Trump has changed the course of history in our hemisphere,” he added, indicating a renewed sense of hope among exiles.
The military operation, which dismantled Maduro’s regime, is linked to his long-standing indictment in the Southern District of New York for alleged narco-terrorism. Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed that Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, “will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts.” This development could mark a turning point in U.S.-Venezuela relations and has raised questions about the future leadership of Venezuela.
In an interview, Gimenez revealed that Delcy Rodriguez, Maduro’s vice president, appears to be taking charge of the Venezuelan government. He expressed hope that the removal of Maduro would pave the way for “free and fair elections.” “This is a big day for Venezuela. It’s the first step,” Gimenez stated, emphasizing that “there is work to be done.”
Miami Representative Mario Diaz-Balart connected the military intervention to the ongoing influx of drugs and gang violence from Venezuela into the United States. “While others dithered, President Trump recognized this threat for what it is and acted with resolve,” he tweeted, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
Echoing this sentiment, Representative María Elvira Salazar urged the Venezuelan military to support their citizens, referencing the controversial election last year that saw opposition candidate Edmundo González declared the victor by international observers despite Maduro’s claims of victory. “The decisive moment has arrived. History will judge your actions,” Salazar said, calling for a peaceful transfer of power.
Local leaders in Miami are already looking towards Cuba, a key ally of Venezuela. Miami-Dade’s elected tax collector, Dariel Fernandez, expressed hope that the seizure of Maduro would signal a change in Cuba as well. “Now the time has come for Cuba,” he stated in a statement sent to reporters before 6:30 a.m.. He affirmed that this military action would resonate positively in Miami, where many Venezuelan Americans reside.
Miami-Dade Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis echoed Fernandez’s sentiments, asserting that the seizure could lead to leadership changes not just in Venezuela, but across the region. “To the Venezuelan people fighting for liberty, you are not alone,” she stated, warning the “enemies of freedom in Havana and across our hemisphere” that their days are numbered.
This urgent news highlights a critical moment in Latin American politics, with the potential for widespread implications. As the situation unfolds, eyes will remain on Venezuela and its effects on its close ally, Cuba. The world watches as the struggle for democracy intensifies and the hope for a liberated future grows stronger.
