UPDATE: The small community of Tumbler Ridge is receiving overwhelming support from around the globe in the wake of a devastating mass shooting that has left families grieving and first responders on high alert. Local restaurant owner Wendy Trueit initiated an inspiring movement by providing free meals to those affected, and the response has been extraordinary.

Just hours after the tragedy, Trueit, co-owner of Twisted Seasons Bistro, began serving complimentary meals to healthcare workers, paramedics, police officers, and firefighters. “We’ve had people from the U.S. and Europe reach out, asking how they can help,” Trueit revealed. “I never expected this kind of support; it caught me off guard.”

As the community rallies together, residents have reported receiving thousands of dollars in donations from hundreds of people worldwide. This money is directly funding meals for first responders and grieving families, showcasing a powerful example of humanity in the face of adversity.

In a heartwarming gesture, Ted Ember, a resident from Fort St. John, made a two-hour drive to Tumbler Ridge to deliver flowers on behalf of coworkers and friends. “Next thing you know, there are strangers buying flowers too,” Ember shared. “We just wanted to show Tumbler Ridge that people care.”

The community’s collective efforts have also spawned several GoFundMe campaigns for the victims, which have raised over $1 million. Trueit plans to continue providing meals for as long as necessary, including on the first day students return to Tumbler Ridge Secondary school.

In an incredible show of solidarity, a school in Vancouver has offered to cover the meal costs for all students. “I was unsure if we could handle that, but Northern Health stepped in and assured us they could help,” Trueit said.

The heartfelt contributions are serving as a beacon of hope during this dark time. “It definitely makes you look at the positive in the world,” Trueit emphasized, reflecting the community’s resilience and the kindness of strangers.

This story continues to evolve as more support pours in from around the world. For those wishing to assist Tumbler Ridge during this critical time, donations can be made through various fundraising platforms, ensuring that the community feels the warmth of global compassion.

Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops and more efforts to help the Tumbler Ridge community unfold.
