UPDATE: President Donald Trump is preparing to deliver his highly anticipated 2026 State of the Union Address tonight at 9 PM ET. This marks his first address in his second term, and it promises to be a pivotal moment in American politics.

Trump, who has characterized the current state of the nation as the “greatest economy we’ve ever had,” is expected to discuss key topics including the economy, foreign policy, and tariffs. “It’s gonna be a long speech because we have so much to talk about,” he stated in a recent interview.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt revealed that tonight’s address will also celebrate 250 years of American independence. She emphasized that Trump will argue for three more years in office to restore the American dream, which he claims has been diminished under President Joe Biden and the Democrats.

In a virtual briefing earlier today, Senator Tim Scott echoed Trump’s sentiments, declaring, “America is back.” Scott defended the administration’s record, highlighting lower gas prices and improved affordability, as well as the need for a strong stance on immigration enforcement.

“Gas prices as low as they’ve been in five years. Overall affordability. Prices are no longer climbing, climbing, climbing, and coming down,” said Scott.

However, tonight’s address occurs amidst a partial government shutdown, with the Senate scheduled to vote on reopening government agencies shortly before Trump speaks. Reports indicate that at least a dozen Democrats plan to skip the address entirely, signaling a tense political atmosphere.

Scott addressed the Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn 70% of Trump’s tariffs, calling the ruling “ridiculous” and “dumb.” He expressed uncertainty about potential refunds from this decision but remains optimistic about its implications.

In response to Trump’s address, Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger is set to deliver the Democratic rebuttal, which will air immediately after the State of the Union. This dual presentation will provide viewers with contrasting perspectives on the current state and future direction of the nation.

Don’t miss this critical political event. Tune in to ABC at 9 PM ET to catch both Trump’s address and Spanberger’s response.
