Showers and Thunderstorms Hit Utah: Severe Weather Alert Issued
UPDATE: A wave of moisture is sweeping across Utah, bringing isolated showers and thunderstorms from the south. The National Weather Service has issued a severe weather alert as conditions develop, particularly affecting southern and central regions.
Temperatures today are expected to peak in the low to mid 60s across most of the state, with southern valleys reaching the low 70s. St. George could see highs in the mid to upper 70s. As the day progresses, expect partly to mostly cloudy skies with increasing chances of precipitation, particularly in mountainous areas.
Moisture is already moving in from the Southwest, leading to sporadic showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. While significant rainfall is not anticipated, residents are urged to stay vigilant as storms may roll into valleys like Cedar City and the St. George metro area.
By this evening, isolated showers may reach as far north as Provo and possibly the Salt Lake Valley. However, any rain will likely be brief and light, dissipating by tomorrow morning. Meteorologists forecast that lingering moisture will keep some shower activity in southwestern Utah through Thursday morning, tapering off by around lunchtime.
As conditions shift, a cold front is projected to move into northern Utah on Sunday, bringing scattered showers and a significant drop in temperatures. Valleys in the north could see highs plummet into the 40s and 50s, with overnight lows dropping to the 30s. Southern Utah is expected to remain mostly dry but will experience a slight decrease in temperatures with cloud cover increasing.
Residents are encouraged to follow the latest updates from the 4Warn Weather Team for real-time alerts and safety information. Ensure you have your rain gear ready as storm patterns evolve and keep an eye on local forecasts for the days to come.
