UPDATE: Rob Richardson is officially seeking a second term on the Frankfort Board of Commissioners, emphasizing his commitment to improving city operations and community life. In a statement released today, Richardson expressed his desire to continue serving Frankfort, stating, “I have discovered that although I had many years of experience working for the City of Frankfort, serving as an elected official has given me better insight into the scope of all city operations.”

Richardson’s first term saw significant accomplishments, including the city government operating within budget and generating a surplus through responsible fiscal management. “This was a big priority of mine given the challenges of finding new revenue and identifying areas to make cuts,” he said, highlighting the city’s recent investment in OpenGov, a software tool aimed at boosting efficiency in the finance department.

The former police chief is particularly proud of the ongoing Fire Department Station 1 project, which is currently being constructed on the former Pic-Pac property on West Second Street. This new facility is expected to enhance the city’s fire and EMS capabilities, providing first responders with state-of-the-art technology and training that will benefit local residents.

As Richardson looks ahead, he identifies several key priorities for his potential second term. The expansion of the city sewer system tops his list, which he believes is essential for promoting growth and economic development. “We need to ensure our infrastructure supports future housing and business needs,” he stated.

Additionally, Richardson aims to maintain fiscal responsibility by identifying unnecessary expenses while prioritizing community needs. He reassured residents that despite concerns regarding the budget, strategic planning has contributed to the city’s financial health. “City staff, along with strategic planning, has ensured that resources are allocated effectively,” he noted.

Richardson also has a personal stake in the development of a new downtown convention and meeting center, which he believes will spur economic growth and supports ongoing discussions about the Capital Plaza Hotel renovations. He is also advocating for new residential housing developments, particularly on the west side of Frankfort, to address the critical housing shortage. “We need to retain our workforce and ensure they have places to live,” he emphasized.

With nearly 33 years of marriage to his wife, Kim, and three daughters, Richardson has deep roots in the community, stating, “It has been a pleasure serving on the Frankfort city commission for the past year. I am grateful for the opportunity to represent my community.” He looks forward to hearing from residents about their needs and concerns as he campaigns for re-election.

As the election approaches, Richardson’s commitment to enhancing Frankfort’s infrastructure and community resources is clear, making his bid for a second term a significant development for local residents. With the election date on the horizon, all eyes will be on Richardson’s next moves as he seeks to solidify his role in shaping the future of Frankfort.
