Residents Capture Attempted Break-In on Camera, Demand Police Action
UPDATE: Residents on the Southeast Side of San Antonio are raising alarms after catching an attempted break-in on camera, intensifying calls for increased police presence in their neighborhood. In the early hours of last Sunday, at 2:15 a.m., a man was filmed invading the backyard of local residents Harrison and Savana Yount before attempting to access their home.
Savana Yount recounted the chilling moment, stating, “I think one of the creepiest things was going back and looking at all of our ring cameras and seeing it all play out.” Immediate action was taken as she called the police, prompting the man’s detention shortly after the 911 call.
The alarming footage shows the intruder lurking in the shadows and trying the back door handle. Harrison Yount emphasized the importance of not confronting the suspect directly, opting instead to secure police assistance. “I wanted the police to be able to get here and get him,” he said, highlighting the residents’ concerns for safety.
In a disturbing trend, other neighborhood residents reported frequent gunshots and expressed fears about rising crime rates. A neighbor named Amber shared, “It’s pretty scary ‘cause you never know what people are intending to do.”
The growing unease has led residents to demand a stronger police presence. One local stated, “There has been a lot less officers patrolling the area because (Kate Schenck Elementary) is no longer there.” The absence of the school has resulted in decreased visibility of law enforcement, which was previously a comforting presence.
Residents are taking proactive measures by getting to know their neighbors better to enhance community safety. “We know our neighbors, we love the neighborhood,” said Savana Yount. “So this was a huge eye opener, kinda one of those just very unexpected things.”
The San Antonio Police Department acknowledged the incident but noted that the individual involved was experiencing a mental health crisis, limiting further details. As the community calls for action, authorities are urged to respond to escalating concerns regarding safety and crime in the area.
With the growing demand for more police patrols, residents remain vigilant, hoping for swift action to restore peace in their neighborhood.
