Radiohead’s ‘Let Down’ Surges to Billboard Hot 100 Amid Controversy
BREAKING: Radiohead’s iconic track “Let Down” from their 1997 album OK Computer has made a stunning return, debuting on the Billboard Hot 100 chart—marking the band’s first entry in nearly two decades. The song’s viral resurgence has sparked a wave of surprise, particularly from frontman Thom Yorke, who initially fought to have it excluded from the album.
In a revealing interview with The Sunday Times, Yorke expressed disbelief over the song’s newfound popularity, stating, “I find that especially bizarre, because I fought tooth and nail for it not to be on the record.” He recounted that guitarist Ed O’Brien was adamant about its inclusion, claiming it was essential as the “emotional heart” of the album, threatening to leave the band if it was cut.
Yorke’s surprise at the track’s success is echoed by O’Brien, who noted that his children, aged 18 and 21, reacted to its viral status with a simple explanation: “What do you expect? Teenagers are depressed. It’s depressing music!” This candid commentary highlights the emotional resonance of “Let Down” with today’s youth, reflecting a generation grappling with similar feelings.
As the band prepares for their upcoming tour, they are also addressing pressing geopolitical issues. When asked about performing in Israel again amid current tensions, Yorke firmly stated, “Absolutely not. I wouldn’t want to be 5,000 miles anywhere near the Netanyahu regime.” In contrast, fellow band member Jonny Greenwood expressed a nuanced perspective, suggesting that boycotting could inadvertently empower the government.
Radiohead’s tour dates are set for later this year, with multiple shows scheduled in Madrid, Bologna, London, Copenhagen, and Berlin throughout November and December 2025. Fans can expect a deep dive into their extensive catalog, including the newly popular “Let Down.”
UPCOMING TOUR DATES:
– November 4-8: Madrid, Spain @ Movistar Arena
– November 14-18: Bologna, Italy @ Unipol Arena
– November 21-25: London, England @ The O2
– December 1-5: Copenhagen, Denmark @ Royal Arena
– December 8-12: Berlin, Germany @ Uber Arena
The release of this information comes as Radiohead continues to navigate the complexities of their legacy while engaging with contemporary issues, making their upcoming tour a highly anticipated event. Fans and critics alike are eager to see how the band balances their classic sound with today’s pressing realities.
Stay tuned for more updates as the story develops. This resurgence of “Let Down” not only marks a significant moment in music history but also showcases the evolving relationship between artists and their audience in today’s world.
