On March 7, 2026, Pickett’s Corner, a bicycle ministry operated by Catholic Charities, commenced its fourth year of service at the Parish Kitchen in Covington, Kentucky. This initiative aims to provide reliable bicycles to adults in need of transportation, facilitating their ability to reach work, school, and other essential commitments.

The bicycle distribution program runs from March through November, specifically on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, between 11:00 and 13:00 local time. Since its inception in 2023, Pickett’s Corner has successfully distributed 1,138 bicycles, significantly impacting the community by enhancing mobility for those who require it the most.

Community Blessing and Personal Stories

The launch event on Saturday included a blessing by Fr. Aby, Pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish and St. Ann Mission in Covington. He addressed the crowd, saying, “As we ride our bikes, we enjoy freedom, the beauty of creation and the joy of journey. Today we ask God to bless these bikes and all who ride them.” He emphasized safety and respect on the road, encouraging participants to see their journeys as spiritual experiences.

Attendees shared heartfelt stories about the significance of the ministry in their lives. Willie and Britney, a couple who recently relocated to Kentucky from Florida and South Carolina, expressed their gratitude, stating, “We had prayed for transportation and today ended up with a bike. That lets us know God is seeing us and hearing us, and things are going to get better.” Their testimony reflects the ministry’s role in offering hope and practical assistance.

Volunteer Contributions and Ongoing Needs

Longtime volunteer Steve Wilmhoff spoke about the rewarding experience of being involved with Pickett’s Corner. “This is the fourth year with Pickett’s Corner, and it has been a wonderful experience to see what it means to the community. It helps people move their lives along and improve themselves,” he noted. Wilmhoff highlighted the collaborative spirit among volunteers and guests alike, underscoring the enriching nature of their work.

Despite the positive impact of the program, the demand for bicycles continues to be strong. To sustain its operations throughout 2026, Pickett’s Corner relies on a consistent influx of gently used bicycles that can be refurbished and put back into service.

Those interested in supporting the ministry can contribute in two primary ways. First, donations of new and gently used bicycles are welcome. Interested individuals can contact Pickett’s Corner via email at [email protected] to arrange for pickup or to inquire about volunteer opportunities. When reaching out, donors should include their name, address, and phone number for convenient scheduling.

Additionally, financial contributions are crucial for the purchase of locks and parts. Donations can be made through the organization’s secure donation link: https://secure.qgiv.com/for/pickettscorner.
