ODOT Launches Urgent Curb Ramp Upgrades in Hermiston NOW
URGENT UPDATE: The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is actively upgrading curb ramps in Hermiston, a project that began on March 9, aimed at ensuring compliance with federal accessibility standards. This critical work is expected to impact local traffic and pedestrian movement significantly.
Crews are currently working along Highway 395, with specific upgrades occurring at multiple intersections including Theater Lane, Harper Road, Cherry Avenue, Beech Avenue, Beebe Avenue, Catherine Avenue, Dogwood Avenue, and Gladys Avenue. As part of this initiative, sidewalks, land, and shoulders will be closed to ensure the safety of both workers and the public.
Residents and visitors are urged to stay alert for flaggers, cones, and signage in the area as construction progresses. Fortunately, ODOT has confirmed that access to businesses will remain open throughout the upgrades, while pedestrians will have designated pathways to navigate through and around the work zones.
The ongoing improvements follow an earlier phase that concluded in October, but due to the extensive number of curb ramps requiring attention in Hermiston, the project was divided into two phases. ODOT anticipates that the current upgrades will be completed by July, ensuring that all facilities meet necessary accessibility standards.
This project is not just about compliance; it directly impacts the daily lives of residents and visitors who rely on these pathways for mobility. The upgrades aim to provide safer and more accessible environments for everyone in the community, making it crucial for locals to be informed about these changes as they unfold.
Stay tuned for more updates as ODOT continues its efforts to enhance accessibility in Hermiston and ensure a smoother experience for all users of these vital public spaces.
