Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool Future in Question After Leeds Draw
UPDATE: Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool FC is now in jeopardy following a tumultuous 3-3 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday. The club legend was an unused substitute for the third consecutive match, raising serious concerns about his standing within the team.
Salah has gone seven matches without a goal contribution, recording just five goals and three assists this season. As Liverpool slides out of the title race and European contention, Salah has expressed frustration, hinting this could be his final chapter with the Reds.
After the match, Salah stated,
“It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.”
He did not clarify who he was referring to, but he acknowledged a significant deterioration in his relationship with manager Arne Slot.
Salah remarked,
“I had a good relationship with the manager, and all of a sudden, we don’t have any relationship. It seems to me, that someone doesn’t want me in the club.”
This candid admission has sent shockwaves through the club’s fanbase, as the situation escalates.
As Salah prepares to represent Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations starting on December 15, he faces a potential absence from Liverpool until after January 18, 2026, if Egypt advances to the final. This looming departure has intensified speculation about his future, especially after recent interest from the Saudi Pro League.
Before leaving, Salah has two crucial matches: an away fixture against Inter in the Champions League on Tuesday, followed by a home game against Brighton on December 13. He expressed uncertainty about his playing time but stated,
“I don’t know what is going to happen now. I will be in Anfield to say goodbye to the fans.”
This could be a pivotal moment for Salah, who, despite signing a contract extension with Liverpool at the end of last season, may find himself on the move if the club decides to part ways. With Salah’s age at 33, a transfer in January could be beneficial for both him and the club.
“In football, you never know. I don’t accept this situation. I have done so much for this club,” Salah stated, showcasing his desire to fight for his place. However, the growing tension between Salah and Slot has created a challenging environment for Liverpool.
Slot, who took charge before last season, is facing his first significant adversity as head coach. With Liverpool struggling to integrate new players like Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, the team’s dynamics are shifting, and Salah’s previous status as the focal point appears to be waning.
If tensions remain unresolved, Liverpool’s ongoing struggles could lead to a drawn-out rebuilding process. The club has historically avoided mid-season managerial changes, especially with someone who has built goodwill like Slot. Yet, if it comes down to a power struggle between Slot and Salah, it’s unclear which direction the club’s management will lean.
The next few weeks will be critical for Salah and Liverpool as they navigate this turbulent period. Fans are left wondering if this is the end of an era or just another bump in the road for one of the Premier League’s most electrifying players.
