Miami Hurricanes Rally Past Pittsburgh Behind Reneau’s 28 Points

UPDATE: In a thrilling comeback, the Miami Hurricanes surged back from a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat the Pittsburgh Panthers 76-69 in their ACC opener on January 3, 2024. Malik Reneau led the charge with an impressive 28 points, going a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line.

The game took a dramatic turn as Miami, trailing 43-33 at the break after Pittsburgh’s stunning 20-0 run, rallied in the second half. Reneau’s dominance in the paint and at the free-throw line propelled the Hurricanes to outscore the Panthers 43-26 in the final period.

Miami’s first lead of the half came on a layup by Tre Donaldson with 14:18 left in the game. The Hurricanes sealed their victory with an 8-0 run, capped off by another layup from Reneau with just 5:57 remaining. Donaldson finished the night with 19 points, while Tru Washington contributed 11 points.

Despite shooting only 4 of 22 from beyond the arc, Miami dominated the boards with a 43-28 rebounding advantage and excelled at the line, converting 20 of 26 attempts.

For Pittsburgh, Corhen led the scoring with 17 points and 8 rebounds, while Barry Dunning Jr. and Damarco Minor added 16 and 14 points, respectively. The Panthers now stand at 7-7 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
