UPDATE: A dramatic incident unfolded on December 25, 2025, when Alexander Eugene Smith, a 24-year-old man, forcibly yanked a female Washington State Patrol lieutenant from her patrol car, stole the vehicle, and led authorities on a high-speed chase along Interstate 5.

The chaos began around 11 a.m. on Christmas Day near Northgate Way in Seattle, where troopers were called to reports of a man walking on the highway. When officers arrived, Smith aggressively pulled the lieutenant from her cruiser before speeding away. Video footage of the incident shows the suspect shoving the officer to the ground before fleeing in her vehicle.

Troopers immediately initiated a pursuit, tracking the stolen patrol car as it sped northbound on I-5 toward Everett. Smith then exited the highway, made a U-turn, and raced back southbound, leading to a tense chase that ended when officers executed a successful PIT maneuver, disabling the stolen cruiser.

Smith was apprehended at the scene but refused to identify himself. A subsequent search revealed two glass pipes containing burnt residue, leading Smith to admit he had smoked meth earlier that day, according to an arrest report obtained by KOMO News.

He now faces multiple charges, including robbery, attempted eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, assault, and driving under the influence. Smith did not attend his initial court hearing on Friday afternoon, and a bond hearing has been scheduled for Saturday at the King County Jail.

The incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by law enforcement officers and raises questions about public safety on busy highways, especially during holiday times. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

As this situation unfolds, the community is left to wonder about the implications of such reckless behavior and the safety of those on the road. Stay tuned for further updates on this urgent case.
