Kubota Partners with Kilter on Revolutionary Weeding Robot Launch

URGENT UPDATE: Japanese agriculture leader Kubota has just announced a groundbreaking partnership with Norwegian tech startup Kilter to develop and launch the innovative Kilter AX-1 ultra high-precision weeding robot. This cutting-edge technology will initially target vegetable farmers in Germany and the Netherlands, focusing on crops such as spinach, salad lettuces, herbs, celeriac, and strawberries.

The collaboration aims to deliver higher yields and enhance crop quality while drastically reducing chemical pesticide use. The Kilter AX-1 employs a revolutionary approach known as “Single Drop Technology,” which utilizes AI for weed recognition and achieves placement accuracy of approximately 6 mm. This allows for micro-doses of herbicide to be applied directly to weeds, preserving the integrity of surrounding crops and soil.

“We had to design a droplet applicator that can withstand years of dust, vibration, and temperature changes,” said Anders Brevik, CEO of Kilter. “Achieving consistent droplet size and timing required deep agronomy knowledge, extensive engineering, and thousands of hours of field testing.”

Farmers adopting the AX-1 can expect to reduce herbicide use by up to 95%, shifting the focus from chemical reliance to smart application techniques. This leap in sustainable farming practices positions Kubota’s Smart Farming Solutions Division, launched in 2024, to integrate the Kilter robot into its European dealer network effectively.

As of now, no pricing details or plans for North American availability have been disclosed. However, Kubota has been making waves in the agricultural sector with electrified and autonomous solutions showcased at major events like CES, indicating a strong commitment to innovation in farming practices.
