James Van Der Beek’s GoFundMe Surpasses $1 Million Following Death
BREAKING: The GoFundMe campaign for James Van Der Beek has officially surpassed $1 million as supporters rally to assist his widow, Kimberly Van Der Beek, and their six children. This urgent fundraising effort comes just hours after Van Der Beek’s tragic passing, announced on his Instagram earlier today.
As of February 11, 2026, the campaign, initially set to raise $1.3 million, reflects the overwhelming love and support from fans and friends during this devastating time. James, who was only 48 years old, fought bravely against stage 3 colorectal cancer, leaving behind his wife and six children: Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn, and Jeremiah.
The GoFundMe page details the acute financial strain that the family endured throughout James’ illness, stating they are now “out of funds” and facing an uncertain future. “The costs of James’s medical care and the extended fight against cancer have left the family struggling,” the page explained. “They are working hard to stay in their home and ensure their children can continue their education.”
Van Der Beek’s death was confirmed by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office, who stated he was pronounced dead at 6:44 a.m. today. His family expressed their grief in a heartfelt statement, highlighting his courage and unwavering faith during his illness. The statement read, “Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. We ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve.”
In the wake of his passing, numerous celebrities have stepped up to contribute to the GoFundMe campaign, including Derek Hough, Ricki Lake, and Busy Phillips. The outpouring of support illustrates the profound impact James had on those around him.
James’ battle with cancer was publicly shared in November 2024, leading him to seek various avenues to offset treatment costs, including selling personal memorabilia from his iconic roles in Dawson’s Creek and Varsity Blues. His Dawson’s Creek co-star, Michelle Williams, even organized a star-studded reunion event in September 2025 to raise funds for his care.
As the Van Der Beek family navigates this painful chapter, the GoFundMe serves as a lifeline to help them maintain stability in the face of unimaginable loss. The heartfelt support from the community is crucial as they move forward. Stay tuned for updates on the ongoing fundraising efforts and how you can help.
