I-70 Eastbound at Vail Pass Closed Due to Safety Hazards
UPDATE: The eastbound lane of Interstate 70 at Vail Pass has been closed due to urgent safety concerns. The closure occurred around 1:30 PM on January 4, 2024, affecting traffic between Exit 180 at East Vail and Exit 190 at Vail Pass Summit, as confirmed by CoTrip.org.
Authorities initially closed both the eastbound and westbound lanes at Exit 190. However, the westbound lane was reopened at 1:27 PM, allowing some relief for stranded motorists. The eastbound lane remains shuttered as crews assess the situation.
This closure is expected to significantly impact travelers in the area, particularly those heading to popular ski resorts and outdoor destinations. Local officials are urging drivers to seek alternative routes while the situation is evaluated for safety.
Stay tuned for updates as the situation develops. Traffic data and official statements will be shared as they become available.
