Hiker Found Dead After Climbing Mount Whitney Alone

URGENT UPDATE: A hiker has been tragically found dead on Mount Whitney, California’s highest peak, after continuing to climb alone while his friend turned back. The Inyo County Search and Rescue (SAR) team confirmed this heartbreaking news following an extensive search operation initiated on Monday, October 2, 2023.

The incident began late on Saturday night when two hikers started their ascent. Around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, one hiker made the critical decision to turn back at a perilous elevation of 12,500 feet due to safety concerns. However, the other hiker continued onward, prompting concern when he failed to return by Monday morning.
