Fox News Host Sounds Alarm on ‘Wine Moms’ Amid ICE Protests
UPDATE: A controversial statement from Fox News host Dave Marcus regarding “organized gangs of wine moms” has sparked significant backlash following the tragic shooting of 37-year-old Renee Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. Just hours ago, Michelle Goldberg of the New York Times responded with sharp criticism, labeling the alarm as absurd and highlighting the increasing tension between conservative media and women protesting immigration enforcement.
In his article published earlier this week, Marcus claimed that these so-called “wine moms” are using “antifa tactics” to intimidate ICE agents involved in apprehending undocumented individuals. He expressed deep concern that what he termed “criminal conspiracies” may be forming among groups of women advocating for immigrant rights. Marcus stated, “We need to ask ourselves, quite seriously, if groups of people training and then executing missions that put law enforcement and the public in harm’s way may, in fact, be criminal conspiracies.”
Goldberg’s rebuttal, posted Friday, was both witty and scathing. She described the notion of “wine mom gangs” as a “new danger stalking our besieged country,” and suggested that such rhetoric reflects a growing trend of misogyny in conservative circles. She emphasized the absurdity of labeling affluent women advocating for social justice as domestic terrorists, labeling them instead as “AWFL: Affluent White Liberal Women.”
In her response, Goldberg pointed out that hard-right outlets like PJ Media have echoed Fox News’ concerns by branding these women as a “greatest threat to our nation.” She remarked, “The acronym is wrong, but never mind,” mocking the portrayal of women activists as a serious threat.
Goldberg further asserted that the Trump administration is leveraging these narratives to divert attention from their controversial immigration policies. She noted, “It took only weeks for conservative demagogues to direct their venom toward the middle-class women of the Resistance,” highlighting a disturbing trend of misogynistic backlash against women like Good, who have become symbols in the fight for immigrant rights.
With tensions escalating across the nation, Goldberg’s commentary reflects a crucial moment in the ongoing discourse surrounding immigration and protest dynamics. As political divisions deepen, the implications of these narratives could resonate widely, affecting public perception and policy.
As this story develops, the nation will be watching closely. The growing discourse around ICE actions and public protests raises critical questions about civil rights and gender dynamics in contemporary America. Stay tuned for further updates on this unfolding situation.
