Ford Issues Urgent Recall for 412,000 Explorers Over Safety Risk
UPDATE: Ford Motor Company has just announced a major recall affecting 412,774 Explorer SUVs, raising urgent safety concerns for drivers. The recall targets 2017-2019 models equipped with specific cross-axis ball joint (CABJ) parts manufactured by SAF, which may lead to a dangerous rear suspension toe link fracture.
This defect can significantly impair steering control, increasing the risk of crashes. The recall follows alarming reports from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which flagged five incidents involving 2018 Explorer models that lost steering control due to these fractures.
Authorities confirm that Ford launched an investigation in late January 2023 after being alerted to these incidents. During this probe, they uncovered an additional 26 reports documenting similar issues. Although Ford states it has not recorded any injuries linked to this flaw, the company is aware of at least two incidents where vehicles struck road barriers after experiencing toe link failures.
Ford plans to notify affected owners early next month, with a commitment to replace the faulty toe links with sturdier components designed to resist seizing, thereby enhancing vehicle safety. This recall follows a previous one in 2021 for earlier Explorer models, underscoring ongoing challenges Ford faces with this model’s suspension system.
The automaker’s proactive approach to addressing these potential hazards is crucial, especially as recalls continue to impact both newer and older vehicles. As safety remains a top priority for consumers, Ford’s latest action reflects a commitment to ensure that Explorer drivers can navigate the roads with confidence.
As this situation develops, affected owners are urged to stay alert for further updates from Ford regarding the recall process. The automotive community watches closely as this unfolding story emphasizes the importance of vehicle safety in the face of manufacturing challenges.
