URGENT UPDATE: Facebook users have just weeks left to claim their share of a staggering $12.5 million settlement related to a significant privacy data leak. Individuals affected could receive cash payments between $47 and $237 as part of this class action suit.

The settlement follows a violation of the federal Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA) by the AARP, which shared user information with Facebook. This breach affects users who requested or obtained video content on AARP.org between September 27, 2020, and September 12, 2025. To qualify, individuals must have been either a member of AARP or a registered user of the site.

Based in Washington, D.C., AARP had more than 38 million members as of 2018. In addition to the financial settlement, AARP has agreed to implement stricter controls on the operation of Meta Pixel on specific video pages, a move designed to bolster user privacy and comply with VPPA regulations.

The clock is ticking for potential claimants. The deadline to submit a valid claim form is December 31, 2025. All claims must be made under penalty of perjury, meaning fraudulent claims could jeopardize benefits for other eligible individuals.

Furthermore, important dates for this settlement include a final approval hearing scheduled for February 10, 2026. Users are urged to act quickly to secure their compensation as this opportunity is rapidly closing.

In addition to this settlement, there are other class action cases that may offer compensation. Affected consumers may be eligible for upgrades if they own certain Hyundai or Kia vehicles, which have been linked to thefts due to recent trends. Additionally, those with a Husqvarna gas-powered grass string trimmer may qualify for a $45 voucher and an extended warranty.
