Dodgers Announce Snell, Yamamoto as World Series Starters
URGENT UPDATE: The Los Angeles Dodgers have officially named Blake Snell as the starting pitcher for Game 1 of the World Series this Friday, followed by Yoshinobu Yamamoto in Game 2 against the Toronto Blue Jays. Manager Dave Roberts confirmed this pivotal decision on Tuesday, signaling a repeat of their successful pitching strategy from the NL Championship Series.
Snell dazzled during Game 1 of the Championship Series on October 13, 2023, striking out 10 batters over eight scoreless innings. This performance marked him as the first Dodgers pitcher to complete eight innings while allowing one hit or fewer in a postseason game. Yamamoto, showcasing his skills, delivered a complete game three-hitter in Game 2, becoming the first Dodgers pitcher to achieve this feat in the playoffs since 2004.
As anticipation builds for the World Series, Roberts has yet to announce the starters for Games 3 and 4, scheduled to take place back at Dodger Stadium. However, he hinted that Tyler Glasnow and Shohei Ohtani could likely follow in that order, maintaining the momentum from their previous successes.
“I think we’re going to run the same rotation back, I think for sure for the first two,”
Roberts stated, highlighting the confidence in his pitching lineup as they aim for a championship title.
Ohtani’s incredible performance in Game 4 of the NLCS, which included 10 strikeouts and three home runs, not only clinched a second consecutive trip to the World Series for the Dodgers but also earned him the MVP title of the series.
Throughout the NLCS, the Dodgers’ pitching staff combined for an impressive 35 strikeouts, with Snell, Yamamoto, Glasnow, and Ohtani boasting a remarkable 0.63 ERA against the Brewers, allowing just two earned runs in 28 2/3 innings.
As the Dodgers prepare for the World Series, Roberts also acknowledged ongoing discussions about their bullpen lineup. The Blue Jays present a different challenge with their right-handed power hitters, prompting strategic adjustments.
“There’s one spot that we could potentially kind of debate, and will continue to debate,”
Roberts noted, indicating that while most of the lineup will remain consistent, they are still fine-tuning their options.
Additionally, reliever Tanner Scott has been cleared for the World Series roster after recovering from an emergency surgical procedure. Roberts mentioned that Scott is eager to return, pending the doctors’ final approval.
This announcement of the starting pitchers sets the stage for what promises to be an electrifying World Series. Fans and analysts alike are eagerly awaiting the action as the Dodgers aim to secure their championship glory against the formidable Blue Jays.
Stay tuned for further updates as the World Series approaches, with the first pitch just days away!
