**Delaware Girl Charged in Fatal Shooting of Boy, Case Moves to Juvenile Court**
UPDATE: A 15-year-old girl from Delaware County has been charged in the tragic shooting death of her friend, 17-year-old Baseem “Seyven” Baker, with her case now moving to juvenile court. This urgent development means Precious C. Hamilton will face significant consequences, including potential rehabilitation at a juvenile facility.
In a Montgomery County courtroom on October 6, 2023, Hamilton was decertified to juvenile court and is set to admit to charges of involuntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm during a future hearing. The incident occurred at Baker’s apartment in Abington Township, where the gunshot was ruled a homicide.
The fatal incident unfolded when Hamilton was visiting Baker at his home on the afternoon of October 6. According to reports, the gun discharged accidentally while the two were alone in the bedroom. Authorities reveal that Hamilton had brought the loaded firearm to the apartment, allegedly stolen from an acquaintance two months prior.
Baker’s mother discovered her son unresponsive upon returning home around 4:30 p.m., prompting a frantic call to emergency services. The autopsy confirmed Baker died from a gunshot wound to the head. Surveillance footage showed Hamilton leaving the apartment shortly after the incident, raising further questions about the tragic circumstances.
Under a limited agreement reached between prosecutors and Hamilton’s defense team, she will be placed in Sierra Sage, a rehabilitation facility, for a minimum of one year. This decision comes as a relief for Hamilton, who initially faced charges as an adult, including third-degree murder.
Hamilton’s attorneys argued successfully that she was amenable to treatment, emphasizing that the transfer to juvenile court and subsequent rehabilitation would serve the public interest. The agreement prevents her from facing the harsh realities of adult prison time, focusing instead on rehabilitation.
If Hamilton does not adjust to the program at Sierra Sage, she risks being returned to the Montgomery County Youth Center until another treatment facility can be arranged. She remains under court supervision until she turns 21, ensuring her continued oversight regardless of her progress.
The emotional impact of this case resonates deeply in the community, highlighting the tragic consequences of gun access among youth. Community members are left grappling with the sudden loss of Baker, described as a vibrant and promising young man.
As the legal proceedings unfold, all eyes will be on the upcoming juvenile court hearing, where Hamilton’s fate will be further determined. The case serves as a critical reminder of the need for responsible gun ownership and the importance of addressing youth violence.
Stay tuned for more developments in this tragic story as we continue to monitor the case. The next hearing is expected to solidify the terms of the agreement and determine Hamilton’s path forward.
